This short video film criticises, parodies and yet reinforces a Public Warning. Someone has taken the law into their own hands and promised a prosecution. The artist, (who could be anyone), is seen challenging and breaking ‘the law’ whilst also re-enforcing it, (this is not evident until the end of the film). Careful planning and attention is used to prepare for the action by replicating the warning, whilst stealth and humour is engaged for presentation and execution.
ANYONE uses a light-hearted approach to criticise a serious subject. Increasingly, society and individuals are being monitored and watched more closely nowadays. We are in an era where the politics of fear are being employed to restrict personal freedom and expression. These liberties are being eroded and threatened at an alarming rate. New laws are continually being introduced to fill any gaps to counter effective protest. The New anti-terrorism law in England is a good example of this and one that has been been used improperly on occasion to assure an arrest. ANYONE highlights the proliferation of prohibition as the artist would no doubt have been arrested or cautioned under a particular act had he been observed and caught, for what, in the end, was a harmless action. Challenges to authority are becoming more rare and difficult as Governments flex their muscles of control and power.
